Local security nets suspected would-be criminal

Primrose police apprehended a man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

Primrose police were called to Wychwood by a local security company, last Monday.

When they arrived at the address given, they found that a security officer had apprehended a 38-year-old man.

“He told officers that he had been monitoring the area when he seized the man, who he claims was about to commit a robbery,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

Police searched the man and found a black firearm with its serial number filed off and five rounds of live ammunition.

“The man was asked for his firearm licence and when he was unable to provide one, he was arrested,” said Maome.

He was arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

He was detained at the Primrose Police Station and will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
