Kathorus operation nets a number of suspects

A number of people were arrested in a recent crime prevention operation led by the Premier of Gauteng.

Premier of Gauteng David Makhura, accompanied by Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Elias Mawela and the EMPD Chief of Police, Isaac Jabulani Mapiyeye, recently toured the Kathorus area.

The purpose of the tour was a crime prevention campaign dubbed Molao o Kae, which is aimed at reclaiming control of public spaces from the grasp of criminals and ensuring safety in citizens’ private spaces.

“The EMPD, in conjunction with Gauteng Traffic Police and SAPS members, conducted operations in the Kathorus area, which includes Katlehong, Tokoza and Vosloorus, in a show of force and high visibility to bring to book criminals and to deter would-be wrongdoers,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.

“During the morning’s joint operations, the law enforcers nabbed three suspects for possession of narcotics in the form of Kat and nyaope valued at over R6 000 and two suspects for possession of two unlicensed firearms with their serial numbers filed off.”
