Elsburg Rugby Club continues season preparation

The Elsburg Rugby Club will host Parys Rugby Club in a pre-season friendly match this Saturday.

Elsburg Rugby Club travelled to Delmas, on Saturday, to face Nigel Rugby Club’s second team in a pre-season friendly.

The match offered the clubs an opportunity to hone their skills before the Kestrel League officially kicks off soon.

The match was action-packed from the moment it kicked off, with both teams giving their all on the field.

The tough game saw the teams competing for possession of the ball, with several powerful tackles from both camps.

The clubs were tied 0-0 when the half-time whistle blew.

Elsburg Rugby Club took on Nigel Rugby Club’s second team in a pre-season friendly match. Here the teams fight for the ball in a line-out.

However, in the second half Elsburg’s Norman Mare was able to break away out of a scrum and scored the first try of the match.

The visiting team’s fly-half Marnus van Vuuren added another two extra points to the scoreboard after a successful conversion.

Nigel soon replied with a try of their own, but it wasn’t enough to win the match and Elsburg walked away the winners, with a final score of 7–5.

Elsburg’s head coach Mario Jordaan was very happy with the performance of his young team and the character they have shown on the rugby field.

The club thanked Delmas Rugby Club for inviting them to take part in the Delmas Rugby Day.

Jorrie Jordaan, club chairperson, said after the match, “If these are the types of rugby skills our players plan to show on the field the season will be a good one for us”.

Jordaan explained that the main aim of the club this year is to encourage all school leavers and residents in the local community and surrounding areas to join the club by offering them the opportunity to learn not only rugby, but also valuable life skills and discipline.

“Rugby and sport development is very important for us and we want to give every person the opportunity to participate in this sport,” he said.

“We want to put Elsburg Rugby Club back on the map and take it back to the glory days.”

He also added that the club is looking forward to playing in the Kestrel League, once again.
