A win, a draw and a loss for the Eagles

Top of the league battle between Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club and Avion Cricket Club in the Sunday Promotion League.

The cricket sabbatical is long over, and local teams are back in full swing.

Fighting for the top spot on the log, the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club hosted Avion Cricket Club at the Elsburg Eagles’ Main Oval in Dinwiddie in the Sunday Promotion League last Sunday.

The Eagles batted first and set a target of 237 runs for eight wickets in their 50 allocated overs.

When Avion came in to bat, they were bowled out for 125 runs for 10 wickets in their 50 overs.

This gave the Eagles a 108-run victory and a spot at the top of the table.

The club’s top batsmen were Phillip Crouse with 106 runs not out and Wesley Lowe with 76 runs.

The best bowlers were Garreth Hann with three wickets in six overs for 21 runs, Jacques Jansen van Vuuren with two wickets in seven overs for 17 runs, Brain Mitchell with two wickets in five overs for 38 runs and Renier Wiesener with two wickets in four overs for six runs.

In the Sunday Directors League, things were not so smooth for the Eagles.

Playing on a nearly unplayable pitch, the team faced United Cricket Club at their second oval at the Elspark Sports Complex.

Teams were allotted 50 overs each.

The Eagles were the first to bat and knocked up a target of 68 runs for 10 wickets in their 50 overs.

 

What could have been an easy win for United proved challenging as they came in to bat and were also bowled out for 68 runs for 10 wickets in their 50 overs.

The match ended in a draw.

The top batsman was Johan van Greunen who managed a total of 23 runs.

Van Greunen, with five wickets in 10 overs for 23 runs, also made the top bowler’s list.

He was joined by Theuns Herbst (three wickets in 10 overs for 24 runs).

It was an action-packed weekend for the Eagles as they also hosted CBC Old Boys Cricket Club in the Saturday Third League.

The T20 was held at the main oval at the Elspak Sports Complex.

CBC batted first and set a target of 137 runs for seven wickets in their 20 overs.

Jeandré Schultz was the top bowler with three wickets in four overs for 21 runs.

 

 

When the Eagles took to the crease to bat, they chased the target only to fall short by 14 runs, as they only managed to get 123 runs for seven wickets in their 20 overs.

CBC won the T20 by 14 runs.

The top batsman was Phillip Crouse with 82 runs.
