Six speedsters nabbed on the N3 highway on Christmas Day

The EMPD conducted speed enforcement on the morning of Christmas Day on the N3 highway in Germiston.  

The EMPD High-Speed Unit spent the morning of Christmas Day conducting speed enforcement on the N3 highway southbound between the Geldenhuys Interchange and Rand Airport Road exit.

The operation took place between 5am and 10am.

Six drivers ended up behind bars when they were caught doing speeds far in excess of the 120km/h limit on this stretch of the N3 highway.

The arrestees were all male, ranging in age between 26 and 44, behind wheels of sedans and an LDV which clocked at 195, 176, 175, 171, 168 and 162km/h, respectively.

They cited reasons from testing a new car to rushing to funerals outside the Gauteng province.

All the arrested drivers were detained at the Germiston Police Station on charges of reckless and negligent driving.

They were later released after posting bail of R1 000 each and were expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
