Police pounce on alleged business robbers

Katlehong North police apprehended a man on a charge of business robbery in the Hlahatsi Section of Katlehong.

Katlehong North police recently arrested a man, aged between 20 and 30 years old, in the Hlahatsi Section of Katlehong North.

The man was charged with business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“He was arrested after police, who were conducting a stop-and-search operation in the area, received a tip-off about a robbery at a local liquor store,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, corporate communication official for the Katlehong police.

“When the officers arrived on the scene community members pointed out a Volkswagen Polo that was speeding away from the scene.

“They claimed the suspects were inside it.”

The officers gave chase and chased the vehicle to the Goba Section, about a kilometre from the crime scene, where several suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran away on foot while the driver sped off in the vehicle.

“One of the suspects who attempted to escape on foot was found and arrested.

“A shotgun was found in his possession.

“Police continue to search for the other suspects, who made off with an undisclosed amount of money,” said Ndobe.

The arrested suspect will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
