Community works together to curb crime

Joint efforts by the Elspark community, local security companies, Elspark Sector Two CPF and the Elsburg police recently saw four criminals in police custody following a business robbery.

The Elspark Sector Two CPF, Elsburg police and the community recently joined together in ensuring that dangerous suspects were brought to justice after an alleged business robbery in the area.

It is alleged the suspects robbed the Ackermans clothing store at Kingfisher Square in Elspark of an undisclosed amount of money.

During their escape, the suspects collided with Elsburg SAPS Task Team members, a local security company and Elspark Sector Two CPF members.

A shoot-out occurred between the officers and the suspects.

“Four suspects were arrested,” said Capt André de Jager, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni West SAPS Cluster.

“Three of the four suspects sustained injuries and gunshot wounds. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment and were kept under police guard.”

One suspect appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court last Monday.

He was remanded in Boksburg police custody, while the other three suspects were still in hospital.

Two of the three hospitalised suspects were discharged on Wednesday and were detained in Elsburg SAPS custody.

The three appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

“The case is still under investigation and the police urge any witnesses to visit the Elsburg Police Station with information that could help with the investigation,” said de Jager.
