Tough weekend for Eagles

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club continued their Easterns Cricket League season with several matches, this weekend.

It was a difficult weekend for Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club, following last weekend’s success.

The club suffered defeat in both their Saturday Third League and Sunday Promotion League matches but won their Sunday Directors League match.

In their Sunday Promotion League fixture, the club hosted Etwatwa Cricket Club at the Elsburg Eagles’ Main Oval in Dinwiddie.

The Eagles won the toss and elected to bat first, knocking up a total of 160 runs, all out, in their 50 allotted overs.

The match’s top batsmen for the Eagles were Gareth Hann with 66 runs, Renier Wiesener with 23 runs and Stan Thorpe with 20 runs.

Etwatwa then took their turn at the crease and made 161 runs with one wicket in hand, in their 50 overs, securing them the victory.

The day’s top bowler for the Eagles was Wiesener with six wickets in 10 overs for 49 runs.

In the Directors League, the Eagles hosted Vosloorus Cricket Club at the Elspark Sports Complex.

Vosloorus batted first and set a target of 277 runs, all out, in their 50 overs.

Top bowlers for the Eagles on the day were Frank Williams with three wickets in 10 overs for 49 runs and Johan van Greunen with two wickets in 10 overs for 41 runs.

The home team then had their turn to bat and made 278 runs, with three wickets in hand.

Giving the club a three-wicket victory.

The match’s top batsmen for the Eagles were Darren van Tonder, who made a century, van Greunen with 31 runs and Pieter Nel with 28 runs.

In their Saturday Third League fixture, the club hosted Bakerton Cricket Club in a T20 game at the Elspark Sports Complex.

Bakerton batted first and were bowled out for 92 runs in their 20 overs.

The Eagles’ top bowlers were Jacques Jansen van Vuuren with three wickets in four overs for 18 runs, Zane Estherhuizen with two wickets in three overs for 26 runs and Arthur Kalombo with two wickets in four overs for 15 runs.

The home team then came in to bat and made just 87 runs, all out, in their 20 overs, giving Bakerton a five-run victory.

The match’s top batsmen for the Eagles were Billy Millar with 17 runs, Kalombo with 11 runs and Leonard Mugadza with 10 runs.
