Puma Rangers aim to promote young talent

Second annual Future Stars Tournament promises to be bigger and better.

The second annual Ekurhuleni Future Stars Off-Season Tournament is getting closer.

The event, hosted by Puma Rangers FC, will take to the Germiston City Sports Club pitches from December 12 to 16, and promises to be bigger and better than its predecessor.

Young footballers from across Ekurhuleni are invited to lace up their boots and join in the action.

Prince Rulashe, the club chairperson, sat down with the GCN at the Elsburg Methodist Church on Friday to talk more about the tournament and what players and supporters can expect.

“The tournament offers young players the chance to showcase their skills and promises to have something for everyone, even the spectators, with live entertainment and music,” he said.

“However, the main focus of the tournament remains the same, helping to expose, showcase and scout young talent.

“We have invited scouts from a number of different clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, in the hope that players will be scouted and their talents can be developed.

“We hope that some of these young players will have, through tournaments like this, the opportunity to go on and play for South Africa’s top clubs, and even internationally.”

The tournament will host eight teams in each age group category, with the categories including u-15, u-17 and u-19.

An affiliation fee of R700 per team, per division, is payable upon registration.

Group stage matches, played at the Germiston City Sports Club, will kick off at 8.30am and will continue throughout the day until 5pm on December 12, 13 and 14.

The semi-finals and finals, which will also be played at the Germiston City Sports Club, will kick off at 9am and will continue throughout the day until 5pm on December 15 and 16.

Team entries are based on a first come, first served basis, so clubs are urged to get their entries in as soon as possible.

The winners in each division of the tournament will walk away with prize money, a full set of kit, trophies and medals.

In addition, the winners will win an exclusive tour of the Kaizer Chiefs Village, which includes the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet several Kaizer Chiefs FC senior players.

The club also invited local businesses and potential sponsors to attend Friday’s briefing.

“We feel it is important to interact with potential sponsors face-to-face and to share our vision with them and explain how the money will be used.

“It also allows us the opportunity to answer any questions they may have,” Rulashe said.

But it didn’t stop there, the club used the occasion to launch the new Puma Rangers FC kit.

“We decided to launch a new kit for two reasons, firstly we have been using our previous kit for some time now and believe a new kit will rejuvenate the club.

“Secondly we have a new sponsor, Hansa Flexfrom Germany,” Rulashe explained.

Puma Rangers FC chairperson Prince Rulashe and deputy chairperson Glen Mabunda show off the club’s new goalkeeper’s shirt which was unveiled at the launch at the Elsburg Methodist Church on Friday. The shirt forms part of the new kit for Puma Rangers FC.
