Elsburg Eagles back to their winning ways

The latest performance by the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club in their Sunday Promotion League and Sunday Directors League fixtures helped the club bounce back into winning action.

After three consecutive losses, Thokoza Cricket Club helped Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club bump up their confidence when they lost to the Eagles in the Sunday Directors League.

The players took to the crease at the Elspark Sports Complex on Sunday.

Batting first was the Eagles, knocking up a target of 125 runs for 10 wickets in their 50 overs.

Returning from the break, Thokoza confidently took to the pitch, but only scored 119 runs for 10 wickets in their 50 overs.

Eagles celebrated their five-run victory when Johan van Greunen’s fast ball sped past Thokoza’s batsman, Duncan Mogale, hitting the wickets and bringing the game to an end.

The top batsmen for the Eagles were van Greunen with 37 runs, Authur Kalombo with 25 runs not out and Martiens Grobler with 16 runs.

Mahlatse Mphela from the Daveyton Cricket Club is pleased with himself after bowling out Billy Millar of the Elsburg Eagles.

Van Greunen, with a man of the match performance, made it to the top bowlers list too with seven wickets in 7.5 overs for 33 runs.

Other top bowlers included Pieter Nel with two wickets in four overs for 14 runs and Darren van Tonder with one wicket in four overs for 41 runs.

In the Sunday Promotion League, the Eagles faced Daveyton Cricket Club at the Dinwiddie Main Oval.

The Eagles batted first setting a target of 273 runs for six wickets in 50 overs.

The top batsmen were Renier Wiesener with 76 runs, Phillip Crouse with 64 runs not out and Wesley Lowe with 53 runs.

Elsburg Eagles’ Johan van Greunen’s fast ball sped past Thokoza’s batsman, Duncan Mogale, hitting the wickets and ending the Sunday Directors League match between the two teams.

Chasing the set target in vain, Daveyton only managed 145 runs for 10 wickets in their 50 overs, giving the Eagles a 128-run victory.

Garreth Hann was the top bowler with two wickets in 6.3 overs for 18 runs.

Joining Hann in the top bowlers category were Renier Wiesener with two wickets in five overs for 26 runs, Billy Millar with two wickets in four overs for 19 runs, and Wessley Lowe with two wickets in five overs for 26 runs.
