Man arrested for the possession of suspected stolen property

Man apprehended for possession of suspected stolen property in Primrose.

Primrose police were called to the scene of an alleged attempted robbery last Saturday.

When they arrived they found a 20-year-old man, who had been apprehended by local security officers.

The homeowner told police he had been in the house when his wife alerted him there was someone in their yard near the garage.

“The complainant went to investigate and allegedly found the accused trying to remove the spare tyre from his vehicle.

“He reportedly grabbed the man and the two began to fight,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

During the scuffle, the accused allegedly picked up a brick and struck the complainant with it.

“The complainant pinned the man down and local security were summoned to the house, where they apprehended the suspect,” said Maome.

When the police searched a plastic bag the man had in his possession they found a vehicle’s battery.

“He could not give officers a clear explanation as to where the battery had come from and was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property,” Maome explained.

The accused has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
