Pietie ‘Thunder’ Coxen faced Armand ‘Wanderlei’ Scheepers in a middleweight bout at EFC 74, at Carnival City, last Saturday.

Fighters took to the EFC 74 hexagon at Carnival City, last Saturday.

Among the fighters was Elsburg-based Pietie ‘Thunder’ Coxen, who faced Armand ‘Wanderlei’ Scheepers, fighting out of Bellville, Cape Town, in a middleweight bout.

The fight was short-lived when Coxen was caught in an armbar and submitted to Scheepers in the first round of the bout.

“We fought our fight, Scheepers fought his fight and came out with the victory on the night,” said Coxen after the fight.

“We don’t lose, we learn.

“This gives us a chance to go back to the drawing board and fix what went wrong, and prepare for whoever is next.”

Coxen thanked EFC for once again giving him the opportunity to fight in the hexagon and credited his corner, including coach Ferid Basson from Junkyard MMA, and all his supporters for their support.

He also thanked his sponsors Xtreme Crime Solution, Revive Wellness Spa, TTT Nutrition, Fanie Venter, Yolandi Origan, Playsafe Mouth Guard, OTM Prof, NRI, Vulinet, Cool Waters, Great and Healthy Food, Copper Canyon Spur and Waynand Brits, to name a few.

“Without my coaches and sponsors, nothing would be possible.

“You make preparing for a fight so much easier and having your support and understanding of the sport makes it possible for me to live my dream.

“I may have lost this fight but I will come back stronger,” said Coxen confidently.
