Luso continue their winning streak in ELFA cup and league

Luso Africa Football Club walked away the winners of their Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League cup and weekly fixtures.

It was a busy week for Luso Africa Football Club, with two cup matches, and an away league match last Saturday, both as part of the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League.

Last Tuesday’s semi-final cup match was played at the Bedfordview Country Club and saw the club’s first team facing Old Benonians Football Club for a place in the finals.

The team started off strong and on top of their game, creating several early chances, but were unable to turn these chances into goals.

With continued pressure, Liam Jordaan was able to open the scoring for Luso 15 minutes into the first half.

Yannick Beyouma soon added to the score with Sizwe Maguga scoring the club’s third goal of the night with a fantastic strike soon after.

This saw Luso heading into half-time with a firm 3-0 lead.

The tempo of the match slowed in the second half with Luso sure of a win.

Fulvio Pereira netted the team’s fourth and final goal of the match, before Old Bens managed to score a late consolation goal, but it was too little too late and the game ended 4-1.

Luso have progressed to the cup finals where they will take on Randburg Football Club who beat Germiston City Football Club in their semi-final clash.

The date and venue for the cup finals are yet to be confirmed.

Last Thursday the club’s second team took on Benoni Northerns Football Club in their semi-final cup match.

The match was closely contested with both teams throwing everything they had at it.

Northerns created a number of early chances but failed to hit their target giving Luso the chance to apply pressure to Northerns’ defence.

The pressure was not enough and the teams headed into half-time goalless.

The second half saw both teams coming out strong and determined to win the match.

But it was Northerns who opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Luso’s goalkeeper and a Northerns’ striker collided in the box.

Both players were sent off the pitch injured.

Luso attempted to create multiple chances to equalise but the ball never found the back of the net, giving Northerns a 1-0 win.

Northerns will face Linhill Celtic Football Club in the cup finals after they beat Old Bens’ second team 4-1.

Luso’s teams then travelled to Kempton Park, last Saturday, for their second last league fixture.

The match was a must-win for the first team if they hope to win the league. They were able to win in style.

Roberto Da Silva got an early goal, followed closely by a goal from Liam Jordaan.

Kempton Park Football Club were unable to respond and the first half ended 2-0 in Luso’s favour.

The game continued to be dominated by Luso who scored their third goal through Fulvio Pereira.

Kempton managed to score a late goal but it wasn’t enough and the visitors ran out the match the winners.

The win secured them the top spot in the season’s log standings with one match in hand.

Luso’s second team made quick work of their Kempton opponents in their must-win match, with two goals from Nuno De Sousa sealing their 2-0 win.

The club’s teams will next face Benoni Northerns in their final league fixture game this Saturday at Benoni Northerns home grounds.
