Trucks weighing over 40 tons have been using inner Barvallen residential roads due to roadworks on Barbara Road.
The ongoing roadworks which were expected to be completed by the end of June hit a bump in their development plan process due to corroded stormwater pipes.
Stormwater pipes had to be upgraded, as well as the electricity infrastructure.
During this time, residents experienced a number of water outages and grew impatient with the metro.

“Due to an influx of complaints, I recently held a public meeting with residents to address their complaints which included rehabilitation of streets due to potholes, ruined paving and the shortage of water supply in the area during roadworks.
“We understand the inconvenience that this process has inflicted on residents, we just require residents to be patient,” said Ward 92 councillor Tiziana Plaskitt.
“Other issues raised were traffic congestion as many trucks have been diverted to the inner roads.
“As a response, we liaised with the EMPD who took up shifts to monitor traffic in the area and we’ve seen motorists complying with the temporary speed limits,” said Plaskitt.

The budget for infrastructure was estimated at R8-million.
Included in the budget was the reconditioning of surrounding streets which now have potholes and irregularities due to heavy vehicles passing through daily.
Affected streets include Ronald Street, Richard Avenue, Armada Road and Serenade Road.
Rehabilitation of the surrounding streets is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Roadworks on Barbara Road are expected to be finished by July 6.
