Man abandons allegedly stolen vehicle and attempts to escape

Primrose police apprehended a man for the theft of a motor vehicle in Primrose.

While on patrol in Association Road in Dawnview last Tuesday, officers noticed two suspicious-looking vehicles.

“Officers approached the Audi and the Hyundai light delivery vehicle but before they could reach them, the vehicles sped off at high speed,” said Sgt Styles Maome, the communications officer for the Primrose police.

The police followed the Hyundai, which came to a stop in Churchill Avenue.

“The driver allegedly got out of the vehicle and pretended to be walking with another man who was on his way to work.

The vehicle’s dashboard had been pulled apart.

“The officers, however, recognised the 39-year-old man and brought both men to the Primrose Police Station for questioning,” said Maome.

During questioning, the man told police that the accused had offered him money to say that they were walking together. This was, however, untrue.

The suspect was arrested and formally charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
