Don’t open false cases urge police

Primrose police struggle as community continues to open false criminal cases.

The Primrose police are sending a stern warning to the community to refrain from opening false cases.

“Community members continue to open false cases.

“We are aware that many of these are cases opened for insurance purposes, and as police, we cannot stand for this.

“If a case is opened, it needs to be investigated with the purpose of a conviction. Falsified cases are taking valuable state resources away from more serious cases and crime prevention efforts,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, the communications officer for the Primrose police.

If it is found that a case is fake, the complainant will be arrested and charged with perjury.

“The other challenge we are experiencing is that residents who stay in the informal settlements often open cases but are paid off by the accused, or the accused’s family, to either withdraw the case or to leave the area,” said Maome.

The police are, therefore, once again appealing to the community to only open cases that are legitimate with the intention of an investigation being carried out and which will lead to a conviction.
