Veteran boxers start a new tradition

The East Rand Veterans Boxing Association (ERVBA) held a fund-raiser for boxers in need.

The East Rand Veterans Boxing Association (ERVBA) held a fund-raiser for much-needed funds on Saturday at the Primrose Bowling Club with the theme “Boxers versus Bowlers”.

The fund-raiser saw community members come together to support ERVBA by participating in the games set out for the day and purchasing goodies from the arts and crafts stalls, among other stalls.

The purpose of the fund-raiser was to start a tradition of helping boxers financially with transportation costs to make it to matches or even to update their boxing gear.

“We involved the youngsters because we hope one day they will continue this fund-raising tradition to lend a helping hand,” said Jaap van Niewenhuizen, chairperson of ERVBA.

“I thank my committee for their hard work in pulling this event off, and with the help of the community, our next one will be even more of a success,” he added.
