EMPD officers arrest one after stolen goods found at scrap yard in Primrose

Building material earmarked for the housing development for Angelo residents has steadily been stolen.

Last year the municipality had plans to move the residents of the Angelo informal settlement in Boksburg to Germiston.

This was, however, put on hold.

“Due to the delayed move of the Angelo residents, the building material in the form of corrugated frames was stored at the earmarked location near Knights so that building could commence if the plans were given the go ahead,” said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.

“Most of the material started disappearing due to theft.”

An SAPS colonel on patrol in Pretoria Road at about 11am, last Wednesday, spotted a light delivery vehicle overflowing with a load of corrugated iron frames at a scrap metal establishment.

The material was being off-loaded at the yard.

The colonel alerted the EMPD Germiston North precinct commander and EMPD officers raided the scrap metal business and uncovered more of the municipality’s stolen property.

All the corrugated iron frames on the vehicle, as well as those found in the yard, were confiscated and taken to the Primrose Police Station.

A case of possession of stolen council property was registered against the owner of the business.

An in-depth investigation is underway.
