Red Cross celebrates with Goodhope

The Germiston branch of the South African Red Cross took a trip to Copper Canyon Spur to host their World Red Cross Day celebrations.

To commemorate World Red Cross Day on Tuesday, the Germiston branch of the South African Red Cross Society treated their Goodhope Informal Settlement Luncheon Club for the elderly to an afternoon of food and laughter at Spur Copper Canyon in Lambton.

The branch which has been in existence for 66 years, mainly focuses on two projects for the elderly; Elandsvallei Home for the Aged in Primrose and the Goodhope Informal Settlement Luncheon Club.

“We care for 52 members in the Goodhope Informal Settlement Luncheon Club.

“We prepare hot meals for them, provide basic care, enjoy planned activities with them and assist where we can with donations, whether they need toiletries, food or any of their basic needs met,” said Barbra Jensen, the branch manager.

“Instead of the usual hot meal, we thought it would be great to take everyone out to Spur just so they could enjoy some time away from home and socialise in a different environment.”

Other projects include disability management and a training department which currently offers auxiliary healthcare.

“The celebration today was sponsored by WK Wilton Inc, and thank you to Debbie Gaddy of CD Copiers and Copper Canyon Spur for hosting us,” she added.
