Residents association working towards a better future

The LamDel Residents Association is urging the community to get involved and make a difference in their area.

The LamDel Residents Association (RA) was established in 2016 and encompasses Denlee, Delville, Hazeldene, Hazel Park, Klippoortjie North, Lambton, Parkhill Gardens, Webber and the Germiston Lake.

It covers two wards and two CPFs.

The objective of the association is to promote and protect the rights, interests and general welfare of the residents, to make representation to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality and other authorities on matters affecting the residents and businesses in the area and to act as a liaison between the council and its residents.

Anything of a municipal or government nature they endeavour to assist with.

In the short time that the LamDel RA has been in existence, the exco has personally logged over 700 calls with council, this excludes water and power outages as they are dealt with differently and on a more urgent basis.

“The turnaround in council attending to our issues has grown significantly and instead of weeks on end waiting for issues to be solved, they are usually solved within the SLA as set by the metro and usually before these deadline time frames.

“This is thanks to the hard work of the exco and with the help and support of the councillors who are assigned to our area,” said Lornette Joseph, chairperson of LamDel RA.

“Because the LamDel RA understands that council does not always get to area clean-ups, the association has held many successful clean-ups in the area and will continue to do so.

“We ask that the residents please join us as we are not only cleaning our area but also yours.

“If we want our area to be the highly sought-after area that it should be, then we all need to band together and make it happen.

“Active citizenship is the only way that we will break the cycle of being ‘happy’ with the services (or lack thereof) that we are given; or with how our area looks.

“If your neighbour hasn’t cut his pavement lawn, then when you are working in your gardens, cut his pavement for him or her.”

There is an annual membership fee to belong to the LamDel RA ranging from a pensioners fee to a business fee.
