Second time the charm for Coxen

Elsburg Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) fighter Pietie ‘Thunder’ Coxen is ready to step into the hexagon for EFC 68.

Pietie ‘Thunder’ Coxen, an Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) fighter from Elsburg, wasted no time getting back into training following his EFC 67 welterweight fight against Gunther ‘The Beast’ Kalunda.

The fight, which was held at Carnival City, against Kalunda didn’t go to plan,” said Coxen when the GCN visited him at his gym in Elsburg.

“But it was an awesome fight and Kalunda really is an awesome guy.”

Coxen was happy with his performance in the ring, though he admits he was not happy with the decision that saw the pair’s bout come to an end and Kalunda named the winner.

“I managed to get in some powerful punches, which I think caught him by surprise, but he was able to get me into a rear naked choke and get the submission,” recounted Coxen.

Leaving the fight uninjured he got straight back into training and immediately told his coach Ferid Basson at Junkyard MMA that he wanted to get back into the hexagon as soon as possible.

“Two opponents pulled out before HP van Staden was announced as my opponent.

“I admit I don’t know much about him except that he is from Polokwane and has a strong background in wrestling.

“What I do know for sure though is he is going to get a hiding because I am determined to bring the thunder and the lightning to this fight,” said Coxen.

The pair will face each other in an EFC 68 welterweight bout, at Carnival City on April 28.

Coxen is thrilled to once again have the home advantage, which will mean he can benefit from the full support of his family, friends, supporters and fans.

The weigh-in for the fight will take place at Carnival City, from 2pm, and is open to the public with the main event kicking off on Saturday at 5.30pm.

“I am ready for this fight and ready to make my mark,” said Coxen.
