The country mourns the death of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
Sibusiso Mbuli “Dare I say that Mam’ Winnie played a bigger role than most during apartheid. When many were incarcerated and many women not courageous enough, she spoke out and continued fighting.”
Given Sibiya “She fought hard and well for South Africa during a time when black people, especially black women, had no voice. May she rest in peace and in power.”
Nolwazi Thunyiswa “Her passing hurt me deeply, it’s as if I’ve lost my biological mother. I believe that for women to even be in power today it’s because of women like her.”
Phuti Moloto “We have lost a stalwart in the fight against apartheid – an icon, a heroine, a mother. We will mourn her death and bid her farewell with dignity.”
Lucy Masuku “It is sad to lose someone who was a fighter like her, not only was she a fighter but she was an inspiration to women all over the world.”
Themba Mtshali “During apartheid she fought for the rights of black people, she stood bold and courageous throughout. We are grateful for all that she has done, may she rest in peace.”
