Three wins and a loss for Germiston

Germiston City Cricket Club win three and lose one of their Easterns Cricket League weekend fixtures.

Germiston City Cricket Club continued their Easterns Cricket League campaign this weekend, winning three of their four weekend fixtures.

The team first faced Eden Park Cricket Club in their Saturday Second League fixture at the Germiston City Sports Club.

Germiston won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Eden Park was able to knock up 119 runs in their allotted 20 overs, however, the home team were able to beat this target with three wickets in hand.

Jan van Wyk was commended for his very composed and mature batting efforts during the match.

In the club’s Sunday Promotion League match they took on CBC Old Boys Cricket Club in an away match.

CBC batted first, setting a total of 193 runs, which Germiston was able to comfortably chase down in 34.4 overs with three wickets in hand.

The day’s top batsmen were Jacques Nel with 41 runs and Antony Streicher and Gareth van Ginkel with 31 runs each.

Louwrens Engelbrecht was commended for his bowling efforts taking four wickets in nine overs for only nine runs.

In the club’s Sunday President’s League match against Champions Cricket Club at Germiston City Sports Grounds, the team took to the crease first.

The home team knocked up a total of 211 runs, with Jan van Wyk making 60 runs, as the match’s top batsman.

The visitors then took to the crease and were bowled out for only 66 runs.

Germiston’s Christoph Beneke, van Wyk and Trestin de Lange took two wickets each in the match.

Germiston also faced Avion Cricket Club in the Sunday Executive League in an away match.

The team batted first and were bowled out for only 89 runs which the home side was able to chase down and beat in only 14 overs.
