Lifesavers show off their skills at champs
Germiston’s Tyler and Jordan Hughes shone at the recent Gauteng Lifesaving Championships.
Germiston’s lifesaving sisters Tyler and Jordan Hughes, who swim for the Boksburg Aquatic Saints Swimming and Lifesaving Club, made a splash at the Gauteng Lifesaving Championships, held at the Hillcrest Pool in Pretoria.
Despite the intense heat of the weekend Tyler walked away with three gold medals and set three personal best times, while Jordan won a gold medal and four silver medals, also setting three personal best times.

Tyler’s results:
• Gold in 100m rescue medley in a time of one minute and 36.11 seconds.
• Gold in 100m obstacle swim in a time of one minute and 17.68 seconds.
• Gold in 50m manikin carry in a time of 44.16 seconds.
Tyler also competed in the 100m manikin carry with fins finishing in one minute and 22.66 seconds.
Jordan’s results:
• Gold in 200m super lifesaver in a time of three minutes and 2.05 seconds.
• Silver in 100m rescue medley in a time of one minute and 35.32 seconds.
• Silver in the 200m obstacle swim in a time of two minutes and 50.63 seconds.
• Silver in the 100m manikin carry with fins in a time of one minute and 17.36 seconds.
• Silver in the 50m manikin carry in a time of 48.33 seconds.

The Boksburg Aquatic Saints were the overall winners of the Gauteng Championships with 691 points, with Aqua Martina Swimming Club coming in second with 504 points and Senathla Lifesaving Club rounding out the podium finishes with 490 points.
