Luso defeated in tournament final

Luso Africa FC fell just short of being named tournament champions.

The Top Eight Tournament came to an end last weekend with the final between Luso Africa FC and Old Benonians Football Club.

The match was played last Saturday at Luso’s home grounds, Hattingh Park.

The teams were both in top form and ready to claim victory in the tournament, which saw the top eight teams from the previous year’s Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League competing against each other in a pre-season tournament.

Luso’s Leandro De Abreu scored the match’s first goal only moments after the whistle sounded giving his celebrating team a boost of confidence.

However, despite encouragement to stay focused and not to get over-confident, the team made simple handling errors that led to two goals for Old Bens in rapid succession.

Despite a second goal from Tyler Hills, Luso was unable to claw their way back and lost the match 2-3.
