Rondebult Independent Primary School collects water

Rondebult Independent Primary schools helps with the water crisis in the Wetsern Cape.

The water crisis in the Western Cape has escalated to new heights and it was recently reported that ‘Day Zero’ is almost upon the province.

On this day consumers will queue at water collection points to collect a daily allocation of 25 litres until water reserves are boosted.

Many citizens from all over the nation have made an effort to help the residents of the Western Cape with their water shortage calamity and among those making a difference are the learners, teachers and parents of Rondebult Independent Primary School.

Students of Rondebult Independent Primary School loading 5-litre water bottles into the SG Mobility sponsored bakkie transporting the water to the Western Cape last Friday.

The school decided to live up to its motto of being the ‘Foundation of the Nation’ by trying their best to aid the province in need.

“The teachers, learners and parents of the school felt the need to fulfill their purpose as responsible citizens by initiating a water collection drive,” said Basil Kupersamy, the newly appointed deputy principal of the school who headed the drive.

In one week of the drive being in effect, the school managed to collect 156 sealed 5-litre bottles of water (equivalent to 780 litres of safe drinking water).

The 156 water bottles were couriered to Cape Town on Friday by SG Mobility, a division of Supergroup (Pty) Ltd, who sponsored the transportation of the water to the Western Cape.

“We thank all the learners, teachers and parents for their generosity thus far,” Kupersamy said.

For more information or to contribute towards the drive contact the school on 011 862 4174.
