Update: Board of inquiry to probe train collision
A walk-in centre has been set up to assist those who were involved in the Germiston train collision.
A board of inquiry will be instituted to determine the root cause of Tuesday morning’s train collision in Germiston.
The announcement by Gauteng Metrorail comes after two Metrorail commuter trains collided at the Geldenhuys Station at about 7.45am.
The trains were both travelling on the same line from Johannesburg towards Springs.
In a statement, Metrorail Gauteng said that emergency services attended to 226 injured commuters (67 moderately, 159 lightly injured) on the scene.
“At the moment, trains running between Johannesburg and Germiston are running on a single line with associated 60-minute delays experienced,” the statement read.
Metrorail has set up a walk-in centre at 30 Wolmarans Street, Umjantshi House in Braamfontein, Johannesburg for commuters who were involved in the accident.
Alternatively, commuters involved in the accident can call 011 013 0067 for assistance.
