Triathlon series comes to town

Athletes young and old, from beginners to pros, tested their stamina in the tough races.

An icy wind blowing off Germiston Lake did not deter the scores of competitors who came out to compete in the Trinity Sports triathlon and duathlon races on Sunday morning.

This was the first in a three-part series of races.

Athletes young and old, from beginners to professionals, tested their stamina in the tough races.

The event was split into four age divisions, namely young ones (eight to nine years old), children (10 to 11), juniors (12 to 19) and seniors (20 years and older), and featured both standard and sprint distances.

Triathletes progressed through the race’s swim, cycle and run routes, all centred around the lake, while duathlon competitors tackled cycling and running.

Future races will be held on January 14, 2018 (forming part of the Central Gauteng Triathlon (CGT) championships) and April 22, 2018 (forming part of the CGT duathlon championships).

The series will be used as a basis for selecting the CGT triathlon provincial team.
