Great batting, fielding action leads to wins

Germiston City Cricket Club wins two out of three.

The Germiston City Cricket Club was once again in action over the weekend.

The young youth development team took on Duduza in the President’s League at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston, on Sunday and recorded an impressive win of 143 runs.

Germiston’s captain Louis Van Rooyen won the toss and elected to bat first

The team scored 244 runs in their allotted 40 overs, with another whirlwind batting display by youngster Tristan de Lange (16) with 61 off 30-odd balls.

He was well supported by senior coach Rudolph Swart who scored 52 not out.

Duduza were restricted to only 101 runs in 26 overs, all out.

Swart, who coaches the team, was extremely proud of his young bowling stars on the day as all the youngsters took wickets.

An absolute brilliant off-spin performance by Cameron Ungerer (14) saw him taking five wickets for 32 runs in six overs (four were bowled and one was caught).

He was well supported by Ryan Le Roux (14) who took an amazing two consecutive wickets in one over with a hat-trick wicket eluding him by a mere margin.

De Lange also contributed with two for 27 in six overs.

In the Sunday Promotion League, Germiston took on Boksburg Cricket Club in an away match.

Germiston won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Boksburg were restricted to 197 runs in 43 overs from the allotted 50-over match.

Germiston started very well in the bowling department with Louwrens Engelbrecht taking a wicket with the first ball of the game. Thereafter, Germiston struggled as Boksburg were knocking up the runs and at one stage were 120/2.

However, the local team showed good resolve and came back to eventually bowl Boksburg out for 197 runs.

This total could have been far lower as Germiston dropped three catches and accumulated 35 runs in extras.

The pick of the bowlers were Engelbrecht with an excellent five wickets for 37 runs in nine overs and Derrick Boom who supported him with four wickets for 26 runs in six overs.

Germiston then took to the crease and were bowled out 25 runs short of the victory target of 198.

The 25-run loss is the first loss of the season.
