Community encouraged to join the CPF

The Din-Al-View CPF aims to make a difference in the community.

The members of the Sector Five community who attended the recent Din-Al-View CPF monthly meeting at Dinwiddie High School were pleased to receive a high profile visit from an SAPS delegation.

The station commander of the Germiston Police Station, Brig Nkhensani Lemba and three high-ranking police officers from the detective, crime intelligence and media relations, were in attendance at the meeting, which was addressed by Lemba.

Lemba admitted that, unfortunately, there are a few bad apples in the service but, on the whole, SAPS members are dedicated to their employer – the public of South Africa. The brigadier committed to being available to the public and said the CPF executive committee members have her official cell phone number.

Should any issue arise that is not resolved quickly and professionally, Lemba can be contacted by a committee member.

The Din-Al-View CPF cell phone number is 063 218 5815 and is available during office hours.

Should the phone not be answered, send an SMS or WhatsApp message and provide contact details so one of the committee members can contact you.

The executive committee congratulated the Germiston Police Station for being named the fifth best police station in Gauteng.

Apart from the strong managerial team at the Germiston Police Station, their success is the result of the hard work and dedication of the men and women in blue who go out of their way to keep the community safe.

They also gave special thanks to the sector managers who attend community meetings on behalf of the SAPS and give up their free time to be there.

“These meetings usually take place after hours and on weekends.

“Sector managers attend voluntarily without time off or any other compensation.

“Their commitment to the community does not go unnoticed and unappreciated,” said Vaughn Jones, chairperson of the Din-Al-View CPF.

On the down side, the brigadier is currently investigating numerous cases of police officers who fail to open a criminal case at crime scenes.

“The CPF has a twofold duty: the first is to report crimes to the SAPS and the second duty is to ensure that SAPS members are performing their duties adequately and professionally.

“It is important that all crime, no matter how insignificant, is reported to the SAPS and a case is opened.

“Crime Intelligence uses these statistics to determine SAPS’s deployment of members within our sector.

“If your hosepipe or fishing rod is stolen, please inform the SAPS and obtain a case number and also inform your local CPF because this information will assist the CPF with the planning of future patrols,” said Jones.

Residents are encouraged to join their local CPF.

There are no costs involved and it is not compulsory to attend meetings, to patrol or to possess a radio.

All the CPF requires, is for members to be the eyes and ears of the community and to forward information to the CPF, though further participation in these activities is encouraged and appreciated by the community and SAPS.

The CPF is funded by the fund-raising activities of its members and donations from individuals and businesses.

As a registered PBO, the CPF is able to issue an 18A certificate for donations made.

Recently the CPF hosted a Spring Day event, which was sponsored by OK Foods, Minuteman Print, Waldo’s, S W Security, Younique Model Academy, Creative Kids, The Labour Advocate, Maizy Plastics, Perfect Water and Vaughn Real Estate.

The master of ceremonies was Renier van Straaten (“DJ RJ”) and the event was a great community success.

A bit of a profit was made, but the main aim was to bring the community together.

“We thank the public, SAPS members and MEC of Safety and Security who attended and also thank the residents of Castleview who were inconvenienced,” said Jones.

The CPF’s monthly “Boerie Sale” will be held once again outside Merv’s Hardware in Albemarle, on October 7, to raise funds for patrol equipment and consumables.

The community’s support is appreciated.

The CPF is also in the early stages of launching a project to care for the safety of the aged residents within the community so executive committee members are currently investigating a remote panic button system.

“We also work, support and communicate with our neighbouring CPFs in the areas surrounding us, as criminals know no borders,” said Jones.
