Hard work by Germiston FCS Unit leads to convictions

Two men were recently convicted on charges of rape and assault GBH.

The Germiston FCS (Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences) Unit’s Const Mable Phakula achieved a victory when two men were recently sentenced in the Germiston Regional Court One for rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The rape and assault took place in May, 2015, in Angus Street, Germiston South.

Norman Makhuvele (32) and Sibusiso Joel Skondo (28) were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment and five years direct imprisonment, respectively.

Due to good investigation techniques Phakula managed to trace witnesses who pointed out the suspects to her.

The men were arrested and the case went to trial.

It was postponed a number of times for further investigation before the men were convicted.

Lt Col Dokkie Tshabalala, commander of the Germiston FCS Unit, congratulated Phakula for her diligent work and investigation skills which obtained the convictions.
