Nominate your sport star

Who will walk away a star at the 2017 Gauteng Sport Awards?

Nominations for the prestigious 2017 Gauteng Sports Awards are officially open.

The awards will once again be managed by the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation (SACR) and Gauteng Sports Confederation (GSC).

With 18 categories, federations are called to nominate their participants.

On July 21, Gauteng SACR announced that the awards will be held on October 1, at the Silverstar Casino in Mogale City, Krugersdorp.

“It is that time of the year again, when the province pays tribute to members of Gauteng’s sports community at large,” said the president of GSC, Barry Hendricks.

“Our federations are the best platform on which to identify and nominate fitting individuals for the different categories.”

“Nominations opened on July 14 and will close on August 8.”

Nominations will be based on performances or work done during the period July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.

Nomination forms will be sent out to all GSC affiliated federations.

The process is open to the public, who can download forms on www.gautengsportawards.co.za.

“A plea is made to all federations to take these nominations seriously because in previous years they did not represent themselves in the best manner,” said Hendricks.

“The federations who work closely with athletes and administrators, should guide the province on who is most deserving of these awards.

“GSC hopes to see more new faces walking onto the stage on the night of the awards, as that will mean more talent is being produced in the province.”

The award categories are as follows:

  • Sportsman of the Year.
