Derby teams give spectators a display of talent

It was local football derby time with Germiston and Luso going head-to-head last weekend.

Hattingh Park played host to the local football derby between Germiston City Football Club and Luso Africa Football Club’s first and reserve sides last Saturday.

There is just something about a derby that gets people excited and expecting to witness a lot of action.

The first teams didn’t fail to deliver on the action, during their fixture, with lots of tackles witnessed throughout the ELFA Super League.

“It was a great game with both teams putting on their best performances,” said Germiston City FC’s first team coach, Sreten Pavlovic.

Although the teams supplied the action they didn’t supply the first half with any goals.

Luso’s teams shoot to score more wins

“We had a lot of chances but the boys failed to capitalise and score on the opportunities presented to them,” said Pavlovic.

Pavlovic said Luso was awarded a goal in the second half.

“We were all surprised when the referee blew for a penalty as we didn’t know what it was for,” said Pavlovic.

“From what I saw, even the Luso players were surprised by the penalty, as they didn’t even call for one.”

Luso used the penalty to score and the fixture ended with a 1-0 score.

“It was a fair game with good sportsmanship from both sides and if it wasn’t for that penalty, I was looking at a goalless draw,” said Pavlovic.

The reserve teams also put on a good display of football with Germiston coming out the victors in this match, winning 2-1.
