Youth Day celebrations unite community

Unity was the order of the day at the Youth Day Commemoration.

The Youth Day Commemoration event held in Rondebult, last Friday, aimed to unite the community of Rondebult.

The event was organised by community leaders, Derrick Kuape and Cornelius Mabaso.

It was a fun day full of activities.

“This was a family event with lots of activities for both young and old,” said Mabaso.

“The day started with a 5km fun walk and run coupled with aerobics which was great.

“As the day progressed we witnessed great skills in soccer where men and women showcased their talents.”

Mabaso also said the youngsters were educated on the importance of June 16.

“A discussion session was also organised to inform community members, especially the young ones, about Youth Day and what it means to both the young and old in this day and age,” said Mabaso.

“We also had Sgt Lesego Morekisi, from the Elsburg SAPS, to discuss crime and how the police and community can work together to fight crime in the area.”

Uthando Xala (13) was the first female finisher in the fun run while Tshepo Mashabela took first place in the male category.

Volleyball and indigenous games were also among the activities for the day.

“Thank you to the community members who heeded the call to come together on this special day,” said Mabaso.

“The day wouldn’t have been a success without you.

“Going forward, we hope more community members will join hands, unite and stand together against crime and better our community.”
