Hard work recognised at Bertha Gxowa

The commendable work of employees at Bertha Gxowa Hospital is recognised by management.

The hard work and commitment of Bertha Gxowa Hospital’s employees doesn’t go unnoticed.

The hospital’s management awarded some of the staff members at their quarterly merit awards, recently held at the hospital.

The best performing individual and best performing unit were the categories awarded.

Day care centre teacher Cheonese Esterhuizen was the best performing individual, Siyabulela Nombaca took second place and Catherine Mokgatla came third in this category.

The support services and the asset department took the best performing unit award.

“The awards were introduced late last year by the CEO, Dr Nokwethemba Mtshali-Hadebe,” said the hospital’s communications officer, Thabile Mkhatshwa.

“At first, Mtshali-Hadebe introduced monthly merit awards to encourage employees to do their best but later realised that a month wasn’t enough to reflect on the good work of employees.

“The awards were then changed to quarterly merit awards.”

The awards were also introduced to eliminate the perceived job hierarchy and to show that each employee is important.

Mkhatshwa said the awards have improved the attitude of the employees.

“Some of the staff members felt unimportant and the awards have helped boost staff morale,” she said.

“The awards are a great idea as we are making good strides and they are a great build-up to the end of the year awards.

“We hope that soon all employees will feel important and part of the team.”

Mtshali-Hadebe shared a few words before awarding the winners.

“We want to build a culture of positive reinforcement,” she said.

“We look at people who are punctual, always friendly, helpful and committed to their job, among other things.

“This has to be on a regular and not a once-off occurrence.

“Each of you are making our lives easier and we thank you.”

The winners were given certificates and floating trophies.
