Karate club changes name

Karate clubs join heads and form the African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO) federation.

The Katlehong-based Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club has changed its name to the African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO).

The three-year-old club will, as of June, be known as AFCKO Katlehong.

The local clubā€™s head coach, Thulane Sibisi, said the name change is a result of the birth of the AFCKO federation.

ā€œAFCKO is a collaboration of different clubs joining forces and forming the AFCKO federation,ā€ said Sibisi.

ā€œDue to the clubs forming one entity and sharing the same goals, we had to change our name.

ā€œThe federation consists of clubs across South Africa and parts of Africa, including Swaziland, Botswana and Zimbabwe.ā€

Sibisi also said more karate clubs are welcome to be affiliated with the federation.

ā€œWe want to expand and grow the federation and, therefore, more clubs are welcome to join,ā€ said Sibisi.

ā€œThere is great talent out there that needs the right exposure and platform which is what we aim to do through the federation, among other things.

ā€œWe want to take the sport to greater heights and produce disciplined karatekas and individuals in the process.

ā€œWe are excited about the new development and hope for the best going forward.ā€
