The Primrose police have issued a stern warning to the community to not open false criminal cases.
This comes after a 32-year-old man was arrested for defeating the ends of justice after opening a false hijacking case at the Primrose Police Station.
“The man gave a statement under oath claiming he was hijacked.
“However, during the investigation it was discovered that the vehicle had never been hijacked, instead the man had been under influence of alcohol to such an extent that he did not know what happened to the vehicle,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
The suspect has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
“We are appealing to the community to not open false cases as it not only is it a criminal offence it also wastes state resources and pulls officers away from focusing on actual crimes,” said Maome.
