Taking a stand against substance abuse

The Primrose police, with the support of several organisations and the EMPD, continue to tackle substance abuse in Primrose’s informal settlements.

Substance abuse in the area continues to be a concern for the Primrose police.

To combat the problem, the station continues to hold crack down operations and awareness campaigns in an effort to curb substance abuse and related crimes.

Recently the Primrose police, with the support of the EMPD and representatives from the Department of Social Development, and several other community organisations held an awareness campaign in the Makause informal settlement.

During the campaign parents were encouraged to keep careful watch over their children as they could easily be influenced to abuse substances.

The floor was then opened to the community who were encouraged to ask questions.

As part of the event’s programme, members of the Primrose Crime Prevention Youth Desk performed a play to educate the community on the effects of substance abuse.

“We hope the community learned something from this event,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
