Katlehong girl (13) found in Eden Park after alleged kidnapping

Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit and Katlehong police investigate rape and kidnapping case.

Members of the Katlehong police and Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, recently, arrested a 30-year-old man for the alleged kidnapping and rape of a young girl.

The 13-year-old girl was found in Eden Park, in Boksburg, after her family reported her missing from the Zuma Section, in Katlehong, on April 7.

“The family told police that the girl had her cellphone with her when she went missing, and they attempted to call her on several occasions but when it was picked up there was no answer leading them to believe that she was being held against her will,” explained Capt Mega Ndobe, of the Ekurhuleni West cluster.

After almost a month of searching police were able to trace her cellphone to Eden Park.

Officers combed the area, searching several houses, but still could not find the young girl.

“Police received a tip-off from the community on the whereabouts of the girl and rushed to the address given.

“There they found the girl inside a house with a man who claimed to be a tenant in the house,” said Ndobe.

The man told police that the girl had been brought to the house by another man, who was at work.

Officers were able to find the man in Krugersdorp where he was arrested.

“The suspect will be charged with rape and possibly kidnapping, pending further investigation,” said Ndobe.

He is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.

“We thank the Eden Park community for coming forward with information which aided police in their investigation,” said Ndobe.
