Outstanding yearlings on offer at sale

Top thoroughbreds from Clifton Stud go under the hammer.

Clifton Stud, who unfortunately lost their resident sire A P Answer a short while ago, has bred some outstanding horses.

Top thoroughbreds bred by Peter and Jenny Blyth include Horse of the Year and July winning sire Classic Flag, Fillies Guineas winner Glenrossal, G2 Peninsula Handicap hero Fort Vogue and G2 Charity Mile winner Bezanova, who has earned more R1.9-million in prize money.

The farm will be offering seven yearlings at the upcoming National Yearling Sale, which is due to get underway at the TBA complex on May 3.

First of the Clifton draft on offer is lot 81 – a colt by proven sire Toreador, whose recent high class performers include G3 winning sprinter Bull Valley, Listed Secretariat Stakes winner Matador Man and the now Irish based G1 performer Misty Birnam.

This colt, out of an own sister to G3 Fillies Mile winner Sharp Mistress, is from the family of Clifton Stud bred champion Classic Flag – like the colt on offer by a Danzig line stallion.

Golden Sword, whose runners include classy feature race winner Belle Rose, is a full brother to recent G3 Ballysax winner Rekindling.

He is the sire of lot 153 – a grey filly, named Ligogo, out of a five time stakes winner, whose second dam is G3 Magnolia Handicap winner Star Sapphire.

Wreath Of Roses is the name of lot 156, a chestnut filly by G1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade, currently one of South Africa’s leading first crop sires.

This filly is out of G3 placed winner of four, from the same family as Horse of the Year and young sire Legislate.

She’s A Crusade, lot 170, is bred to come hand early – being by the G1 winning two-year-old Crusade out of G3 Godolphin Barb (at two) winner She’s A Winner.

The dam has already produced two winners, including the very useful She’s A Fortress and her second dam is a half-sister to lightning fast G1 winner Tommy Hotspur.

Crusade, a half-brother to dual Oaks winner Seventh Heaven, is also the sire of lot 381 – a bay colt named Sibusiso, a colt out of a winning half-sister to G1 placed two-year-old stakes winner Midnight Serenade and this is the family of July runner up and R1.6-million earner Smanjemanje.

Louis The Seventh is the name of lot 385 – a bay colt by G1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade out of Var’s stakes winning daughter Esterel.

This is a top class family responsible for, among others, Eclipse Stakes winner and Derby runner up Connaught and recent G1 Dubai Sheema Classic winner Jack Hobbs.

Former leading first crop sire and sire of recent G3 winner Africa Rising, Visionaire has a lovely daughter in the form of lot 139.

This filly, named Clairvoyange, is a half-sister to two winners, including the stakes placed Dante’s Legacy and her winning Model Man dam is a half-sister to G1 winning sprinter O Caesour.
