No pedal power for alleged bicycle thieves

The Elsburg police arrested two men for allegedly stealing a bicycle.

While out doing crime prevention patrols in their policing area at 7.15pm recently, members of the Elsburg SAPS noticed two men in Maritz Street, Elsburg carrying a child’s bicycle.

The officers approached the men and asked them where they had obtained the bicycle and who it belonged to.

“The men said they had received the bicycle from a property in Ramaphosa but upon the police’s inquiries the man at the address given denied knowing the suspects and said the bicycle did not belong to him,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

The police arrested the men, aged between 25 and 30 years old, and they will face a charge of possession of suspected stolen property in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
