Batteries, tyres taken in business burglary

Wadeville business burglary allegedly an inside job.

A 30-year-old security officer was nabbed by the Elsburg SAPS, last Tuesday, after he was caught on camera allegedly aiding in a business burglary.

The incident happened at about 7.45pm in Steenbras Street, Wadeville.

“The owner of the company alleged that when he left his business premises all was in order.

“All the doors and windows were locked and the alarm was activated,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“At about 2.26am he received a call informing him that the alarm had gone off at his company and a tracker signal of one of his trucks had been tampered with, so he went out to his business.”

The owner said he found that six truck batteries had been removed from his trucks and three tyres taken from a trailer.

“He proceeded to the camera room where he checked how entry had been gained to the premises and noticed that the security officer on duty had tampered with the cameras,” said Phooko.

“He had allegedly worn socks on his hand to turn the cameras away in an effort to prevent the criminal activities from being captured on film.”

However, according to the owner of the company, the security officer forgot to turn one camera away.

The police apprehended the security officer and are investigating further.

The suspect will face a charge of business burglary in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
