Wadeville crime targeted by police

The Elsburg police along with the EMPD and local security companies take a stand against crime in the industrial area.

In an effort to fight crime in the industrial area which falls under the Elsburg SAPS policing district a joint operation was held, on Tuesday.

Elsburg police members, including members of the Social Crime Prevention Unit, EMPD officers and local security companies went into Wadeville in full force with the objective of disrupting criminal activities.

“They travelled in convoy around the area to promote a safe and secure environment for people in Wadeville,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“Stop-and-searches were conducted where people were searched alongside the roads and high visibility was maintained in hotspot areas.”

Various stop-and-searches were held in the Wadeville area, on Tuesday.

In one hotspot area, several people were searched, and dagga weighing 32 grams and one packet of nyaope were found in the possession of three suspects, aged between 21 and 56 years old.

Safety tips were also distributed in problematic streets in Wadeville and property crime pamphlets were distributed at Dekema Mall.

“We are doing everything in our power to try and prevent crime in the industrial area as we have seen an escalation of crime such as theft, business burglaries, theft from motor vehicle, theft out of motor vehicle and hijackings in the area,” Phooko said.
