Get ready for the Alan Robb race

The 2017 Alan Robb Race will take to the streets of Germiston on April 9.

It is time once again for runners to brave the chilly Germiston morning and tackle the annual Alan Robb Race.

The race, formerly known as the Legends Race, includes a 15km and a 32km race, and will be held at the Germiston Stadium on Sunday, April 9.

The event is held annually by the Germiston Callies Harriers in honour of Alan Robb, who won four Comrades Marathons in Calliesā€™ colours.

Runners will hit the streets at 6.30am.

In keeping with tradition the day will also host a 5km fun run, which aims to raise funds for a worthy charity.

Callies announced that all proceeds from this yearā€™s fun run will be donated to the Care Bear Gauteng Safe House for Abandoned and Abused Babies and Toddlers, in Elsburg, which offers a place of safety to abused, orphaned and neglected children in Germiston.

The home, at 22 Joubert Street, was established last year and is managed by Zenobia Venter.

Entries for the race and fun run will be taken at the Calliesā€™ offices, at Germiston Stadium, on Saturday April 8, from 9am to 1pm.

ā€œLate entries will also be open on the morning of the race from 5am, pre-entrants can also collect their numbers before the race,ā€ said Les Black, on behalf of Germiston Callies Harriers.

Strict cut-off times for the race will be enforced this year.

All 32km competitors must complete the race by 11am, while 15km competitors will have to complete the race by 9am.

ā€œCut-off times will be strictly enforced and participants must withdraw from the race if so requested by race officials,ā€ said Black.
