Athletes make coach proud

Local athletes competed at the 2017 CGA Senior Championships and produced four medals.

Central Gauteng Athletics Track and Field Commission hosted the 2017 CGA Senior Championships at the University of Johannesburg Athletics Stadium on Saturday.

Some of Germiston Callies Harriers athletes were also at the championships.

Their results were:

  • Pedro Aaron placed second in the senior men’s long jump.
  • Kayla Gilbert placed second in the senior women’s long jump.
  • Simonè van der Nest won gold in the women’s u-19 100m sprint.
  • Tanya Ehrke attained a joint first place in the women’s u-19 100m hurdles.

“Once again the athletes did very well,” said their coach Stephanè Kotzè.

“Aaron, for example, was competing against some of the top senior athletes but he managed to come second with a distance of 7.96m.

“All the athletes gave it their all and I am proud of them.”

Kotzè said Aaron will compete at the National Track and Field Senior Championships from April 20 to 22, in Potchefstroom.
