BREAKING: Traffic chaos as taxis block R24 near airport

It is believed they are protesting against the Uber taxi service.

Protesting metered taxi drivers are blocking the R24 east, causing major delays for motorists travelling towards OR Tambo International Airport this morning (Friday), the Kempton Express reported.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

Speaking to eNCA this morning, metro police spokesman, Kobeli Mokheseng, said the metro police, police and other services were closely monitoring the situation.

He said the drivers blocked a section of the R24 at the Barbara Road off-ramp travelling towards the airport. Traffic in the opposite direction is slow moving.

There are also reports that the R21 south had been blocked at the Engen garage near Tembisa.

It is believed they are protesting against the Uber taxi service.
