Rainy with a splash of colour

The community of Germiston came together and had some fun in honour of Cansa.

Despite Saturday’s wet and cold weather, the community of Germiston showed their support for Cansa.

This was evident at three Cansa Shavathons that were held at various venues in Germiston.

The Cansa Shavathon is an annual event where funds are raised through shaving and spraying participants’ hair.

Lambton-based Fortitude Hair and Beauty Salon raised R4 620 at their event.

“We managed to raise R1 900 through the shaving and spraying of hair and another R2 720 from selling cupcakes, raffle tickets, coffee, pizza, popcorn, popping balloons and face painting,” said Gabriela Kleynhans, the owner of Fortitude Hair and Beauty Salon.

“The event turned out well; we had a lot of support and are truly grateful.

“We also thank the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF for sending two of their patrollers, Dewald de Bruto and Kyle Egerton, to the event.”

The event, that took place at the Virgin Active complex, on the corner of William Hills Avenue and Lake Road, in Denlee, was a joint venture between DJL Hair Studio, Mike’s Kitchen, Germiston Rotary Anns and Addicted to Muscle.

“It was a great event and although it was raining people still came and showed their support,” said the owner of DJL Hair Studio, Charlene Britz.

“We managed to raise R2 200 thanks to everyone who came out.”

Fishers’ Hill-based Mamba Security also supported the worthy cause and held their Cansa Shavathon at the Mustang Diner.

“We had planned to host it at the diner and in the park in Main Road, Fishers’ Hill but the rain disturbed those plans,” said Mamba’s Elaine Griffin.

“We held our event at the diner and raised R3 500. Thank you to everyone who showed their support despite the weather conditions.”

All the proceeds of the day will be donated to Cansa.
