Three arrested for selling liquor without a licence

Police continued their efforts to stop the abuse of alcohol in the area.

Three illegal taverns were closed and litres of illegal alcohol seized during a recent operation held by the Primrose police in the Makause informal settlement.

“We are experiencing an increase in crimes such as murder, assaults and robberies, all related to liquor abuse in the informal settlements.

“We will keep on conducting similar operations in the informal settlements until there is no crime in the area,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

In addition to the closing of the taverns the three owners, aged between 28 and 44 years old, were arrested after they failed to give officers their liquor licences when asked.

The suspects were arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station where they paid admission of guilt fines before being released.
