Man arrested after alleged rape

After tricking a woman with the hope of employment, a man allegedly raped her.

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Germiston, on Wednesday, in connection with an alleged rape.

Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS, said: “The suspect allegedly told the victim that he was working as a gardener and that his employer was looking for someone who could assist him with domestic work.

“The suspect told the victim to follow him to a certain address, to meet his employer.”

The victim accompanied the suspect to a complex and the man told her to stand a distance away, while he pretended he was entering the premises.

He disappeared for a while and then returned and told the victim that his employer was not at home and that they had better go back to where they had met.

“While they were walking back the man allegedly started to strangle the victim and allegedly raped her in an open veld,” Raphulu said.

The victim opened a case of rape at the Germiston Police Station on November 12.

On Wednesday, November 16, the Germiston SAPS investigating officer, Const Letsoko Malete, went to fetch the victim, to visit the crime scene.

On the way, the victim saw the suspect, wearing the same clothes as he had at the time of the incident, entering a shop.

“She identified him to the police officer and Malete jumped out of the vehicle and arrested the man.
The suspect is due to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
