Germiston lose rain-affected match

The Germiston City Cricket Club suffered their first loss in the Fourth League of the Easterns Cricket League on Saturday.

Bad weather was a large factor in the first loss for the Germiston City Cricket Club on Saturday.

The loss was the first for the club in the Fourth League of the Easterns Cricket League.

The match, against the Reiger Park Cricket Club, was played at the team’s home grounds, the Germiston City Sports Grounds.

The visitors won the toss and elected to field first, during which time the home side knocked up a decent 202 runs from their 35 overs.

Jan van Wyk, Kevin Cox and Jan Aucamp were the day’s top scorers, scoring 60, 44 and 32 runs respectively.

“During the interval it started to rain and the game was affected, therefore, a mathematical formula (stipulated by the Easterns Cricket Board) was used to calculate the runs to chase and in how many overs,” explained David Ungerer, on behalf of Germiston.

By the calculations, Reiger Park only had to beat a total of 168 runs in 29 overs to win.

The visitors were able to reach the score, with nine wickets down and only three balls to spare.

Ungerer, Anton van der Linde and Donald Cekiso were complemented on their bowling performance, but sadly it was not enough to win the match.

“Unfortunately Germiston fell victim to the dreaded mathematical equation system for score and run adjustment, as we believe they would not have made the remaining 30-odd runs with nine wickets down in six overs if the game was not rain affected,” said Ungerer.

This coming Saturday the team will travel to the Tsakane Cricket Club’s home grounds at Hoskins Park for their Fourth League clash.
